and Other Webinars/Announcements

Successful Crowdfunding: Tips, Tricks, and Lessons Learned
Brought to you FREE by the National Empowerment Center's Technical Assistance Center
DATE: Thursday, April 24, 3:00 - 4:30 PM EST (12:00 - 1:30 PM PST)
Reserve your Webinar seat now at: https://www3.gotomeeting.com/register/532584974

Description: The Crowdfunding Industry Report by Massolution put out data showing the overall crowdfunding industry raised $2.7 billion in 2012, across more than 1 million individual campaigns globally. How can persons with lived experience and peer-run organizations leverage crowdfunding platforms such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and GoFundMe to raise funds for a variety of peer support, arts, and social change projects? Representatives from three successfully funded Kickstarter campaigns will share their lessons learned as to how to get the most out of crowdfunding efforts. These include: crafting an effective fundraising video, leveraging social media and other linkages to raise awareness of the campaign, and crafting a sustainable and achievable rewards program for campaign backers.

Presenters:

Oryx Cohen, NEC's Technical Assistance Center Director, was involved in a Kickstarter campaign that raised over $22,000 to produce a film about the Hearing Voices movement entitled "Healing Voices."

Leah Harris, NEC's Director of Communications and Development, was involved in a Kickstarter campaign for Madness Radio, a monthly podcast featuring alternative views on mental health, that successfully raised over $23,000.

Dese’Rae Stage is a photographer, writer, and suicide awareness advocate who created a Kickstarter campaign for Live Through This, a series of portraits and stories of suicide attempt survivors, as told by those survivors, raising nearly $23,000.

What are some ways to develop a social media strategy, and how do you measure your effectiveness over time? These and other questions will be addressed in this webinar featuring the award-winning PEERS media team. Whether you're looking to expand your own social media presence or that of your peer-run organization or project, this webinar is for you. Announcements/Other Upcoming Webinars

CAFE TAC Video Stories of Recovery
At the 2013 Alternatives conference in Austin, TX, The CAFE TA Center invited people with lived experience to share their thoughts on recovery. Dozens of people chose to participate, and offered their reflections on the recovery process, how the concept of recovery has changed their perspective on mental health, and what public policy makers and the general public need to understand about the concept of recovery.

The CAFE TAC has collected those conversations, and created a series of videos that tell the Recovery Stories of real people engaged in the process. They will be posted in bi-weekly installments throughout April and May of 2014.
This video is the first installment, which examines the question, "What does recovery mean for you?" You can view the video on our website at cafetacenter.net. Please enjoy these inspiring stories of people with lived experience that show how essential, meaningful and empowering the idea of recovery can be.

Webinar: Building A Grassroots Demand for Trauma-Informed Approaches
Host: Tony Trahan
Presenters: Darby Penney, Cathy Cave
Date: Wednesday, April 16, 2014
Time: 1:00pm to 2:30pm, Eastern Daylight Time (New York, GMT-04:00)
Description: While the vast majority of people receiving mental health services are trauma survivors, the availability of trauma-informed services in public sector services lags far behind the need.  This webinar will explore how people receiving services, peer-run organizations, and traditional providers can help build a grassroots demand for these services by educating themselves,  provider organizations,  and policy-makers about trauma and its impact and how trauma-informed approaches promote healing and growth. This webinar was developed as part of the Mental Health Empowerment Project’s Statewide Consumer Networking Grant, “Creating Trauma-Informed Communities.”

Dear Friends,

St. Mark’s Church, 85th & Pioneers is making an open invitation to you to help develop a 12 Step Focused Christian Worship Service.  It would be open to everyone, but we think it would be of interest to people in the 12 Step community.  St. Marks is hosting an exploratory/organizational meeting to brainstorm the best ways to do the service.  It won’t be an AA meeting but rather a Christian service with a 12 Step Focus.  We’re thinking of calling it Re-Charge

The brainstorm meeting will be held Tuesday, March 25 at 7:00 in the Upper Fellowship Hall at St. Mark’s Church, 85th and Pioneers.  There will be pizza and coffee, maybe some salad and snacks, too.

Please let me know if you would like to be part of this project and if you can join us on March 25.

Thanks for your interest and please pray for us.
